SUMMARY:Soma Dance Lab – Finding Ground May 10th Toronto 1:30pm
DESCRIPTION:Soma Dance Lab – Finding Ground\nAn embodied practice of support for uncertain and challenging times \n\n\n\nSunday May 10th\, Dovercourt House TORONTO 3rd fl doors open 1:30 we start 1:45 sharp register here & Saturday May 2nd ONLINE 12:30pm ET register here \n\n\n\nSoma Dance Lab is an embodied practice of support\, an invitation to build a more supportive relationship with your body and inner resourcing from within to navigate change. \n\n\n\nThrough simple\, guided exploration\, we learn how to come back into the body\, receive support\, and find ground in the midst of uncertainty. These practices help support you in moving through challenging or unpredictable times with more ease\, resilience\, and trust in your body’s natural intelligence. \n\n\n\nSoma Dance Lab is a gentle\, guided space for curiosity\, movement\, and reflection. Each session includes somatic practice\, open movement/dance exploration\, journaling\, optional collective sharing\, and take-home practices to support integration and deepen your exploration. \n\n\n\nIn this session\, we explore three main components: 1) The experience of arriving in your body.
The body is our primary way of knowing\, always in relationship with the space around it. As we come back into the body\, we begin to notice how we are shaped by our environment and how we shape our experience of it. In times of uncertainty\, this helps us return to what is here (exploring the body as an anchor) and find steadiness in the present moment. This is a practice of coming into contact with yourself and your environment through sensation and awareness\, returning to ground moment by moment. From here\, we explore 2) gravity as a constant source of support\, something we can yield into as a way of finding ground. Through guided somatic prompts\, intuitive movement/dance\, and reflection\, you’ll be invited to notice how your body meets the ground\, how it organizes effort\, and how it releases into support. A key focus of this lab is 3) exploring the difference between yielding and collapse in the body. Yielding is a responsive softening into support\, while collapse is a disconnection from it. Learning to sense this difference supports more choice in how you move through times of change. Specifically how you navigate effort\, rest\, and support while staying connected to your ground\, even when life feels uncertain or in motion. Following these somatic explorations\, there will be open\, unguided time to move\, dance\, and deepen into what you’ve discovered in your own body. \n\n\n\nTowards the end of the lab\, Liz will share journaling prompts to support the integration of what you discovered in your movement exploration\, so you can move into the rest of your day feeling more grounded\, connected\, and resourced. \n\n\n\nWe will close our time together by sharing personal reflections in dyads or triads (sharing is always optional). Liz will also offer take-home practices to support and deepen your exploration if you choose to continue. \n\n\n\nThis is a lab—you are your own laboratory and researcher. The space is lightly held with guidance from Liz\, while your body remains the primary guide. You’ll be invited to listen to your inner rhythms\, explore sensations and movement patterns\, and build a more trusting relationship with your body’s intelligence. \n\n\n\nSoma Dance Lab is for anyone feeling the weight of what is happening in our world and wanting a space to come back to their body\, find support\, and reconnect to ground. This lab is especially supportive for change-makers and those who care deeply—artists\, caregivers\, social workers\, activists\, and anyone holding a lot. \n\n\n\nNo dance experience is needed. This is a starting point for anyone wanting to reconnect with their body and find ground in simple\, accessible ways\, especially during times of change or challenge. It can also support deeper somatic exploration. \n\n\n\nThis offering is open to people of all genders. \n\n\n\nImportant Note: \n\n\n\nIf you are currently in acute crisis or experiencing severe nervous system dysregulation\, this space may not be the most supportive fit at this time. Please self-select or speak with your therapist or doctor if you’re unsure whether attending is right for you at this moment. You’re also welcome to email me if you have any questions about what will be explored. \n\n\n\nAbout Liz \n\n\n\nLiz Diaz is a somatic facilitator\, dance movement practitioner\, and founder of Dance Heal Transform.
